Pretend That You’re a Leaf

For just one moment, pretend that you’re a leaf attached to a tree in fall.

What color or colors are you?

What is going on around you?

What are you thinking?

What does the wind feel like?

How do you feel as the sun sets?

What things are you afraid of?

What are you excited about?

This life is a leaf falling
    We were the earth
    Then the tree
    Then a leaf, still attached
But we are born when we let go
    Hurtling to the ground
With vain belief in our ability to fly
But we go where the wind takes us
    On our brief journey home

The seed was sewn about 4 years ago: we must have had very few windy days prior to the glorious hour I shared with my dog on the day just about every leaf fell. I can still remember how special it was. Then your post prodded me into getting the watering can out – thanks.

I’m so glad! I always find it fascinating to learn what sparks an idea.

        a tree
        a green leaf
but we are born when we let go
        the wind takes us
        on our brief journey home

  3. Thanks a lot, Robin; you just made my desire to run away to the mountains even stronger, even if there probably isn’t any fall colors left up there. On a completely unrelated note, have you ever thought about writing short meditation material? I know I relaxed as I imagined various things while reading this blog post. 🙂

  4. Robin says:

Lauren Claire – Well, I can definitely sympathize with the desire to run into the mountains, but no I’ve never thought about writing meditation material. Maybe I’ll have to look into it. 🙂
