What Can You Do With a Bucket?

Wooden buckets

I admit it, I just finished watching the first Home Alone where Kevin is defending his own house. Needless to say, it made me think of this: what else could you do with buckets?

Set an alarm for 3 minutes and write down everything you can think of to do with a bucket. Include the things you think are obvious, because they can lead to something new and more innovative, later. Once the alarm goes off, set the alarm for another minute and don’t do anything during that minute. When it goes off again, set it for a minute and write down any new ideas you’ve come up with. I always find that I have new ideas after the minute break.

This is an excellent exercise to start your writing day because it will get you thinking creatively so that you can get your creative juices flowing.

What did you come up with?

The first thing I thought of was throwing a bucket of water on myself if I don’t keep writing during the hot, sunny summer months ahead.

    • Hi Carol – That’s funny. I hadn’t thought of that. I could use that bucket of water most every day around 2:00. I get so sleepy from eating a high-carb lunch. Ha! I will fall asleep in the middle of writing a sentence. What does that say about my story. Eek!

Glad I made you laugh. My book can keep me awake all night, at least some of the scenes. Right now I am raising a litter of bichon frise puppies which keep me awake. People are telling me to write about them, but there is a certain novel I must write first. What is the topic of your story?
