Book Reviews – Closed the Cover

Once you’ve published your novel new work begins, different work, the NOT-writing work. Now you need to find readers who will read your baby and review it. But how do you find them?

Ask. Go to Twitter and use the hashtag #BookReviewers. There are plenty available who will be happy to read and review your novel.

But there are professional sites who offer this service too. And they don’t cost money. Yes, I could have begged my friends for reviews, but I wanted reviews from people I didn’t know. CLOSED THE COVER was one of those professional websites that another author referred me to. Ashley, the owner, read my book, tweeted about it, and wrote a review for me. She also recommended my book to others.

Today I’m giving back. I want to tell you about her website because it’s different than others. A portion of all money raised by CTC literary services or by purchasing books through her affiliate links is donated to the literacy charity, Room to Read.

What is ROOM TO READ? Here’s a blurb from the “About Us” page of RoomToRead.org –
Room to Read had its humble origins in Nepal in 2000, where we began bringing donated books to rural communities. Today, we are a global organization dedicated to promoting and enabling education through programs focused on literacy and gender equality in education. We achieve this goal by establishing school libraries, building schools, publishing local language children’s books, training teachers on literacy education and supporting girls to complete secondary school with the life skills neccessary to succeed in school and beyond.

A few astounding statistics…In the developing world, 42% of girls are not enrolled in school and do not have access to education.

Of the 793 million illiterate people in the world, 67% are female.

According to RoomToRead.org…
More than 13,000 girls in nine countries will have access to improved educational opportunities and holistic support this year as part of Room to Read’s Girls’ Education program. Last year 95% of girls stayed in the program with a 97% advancement rate. We hope to reach 27,000 girls by 2014.

$250 will cover all of the necessary education expenses for one girl for one year.  My goal is to raise $500 to give the gift of education and literacy to two beautiful girls. To learn more about Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program click here.
